Nabucco, a pipeline that will transport natural gas from the Middle East to Europe, will cost more than the EUR 7.9 bln estimated until now, Reinhart Mitschek, general manager of the consortium that is handling the project, stated, ‘Adevarul’ daily informs. According to him, an extra pipeline that will bring Iraqi natural gas into the project will be added to the route that the feasibility study had determined. “This will add another 550 kilometers, so the whole Nabucco pipeline will have a length of 3,900 kilometers,” Mitschek pointed out. He also added that this change of plans will mean higher costs and will likewise lead to a delay. “The pipeline will not be operational sooner than the end of 2015,” the Nabucco official added, although the previous deadline was 2014 – early 2015.
