Over 180 cruise ship will visit the Delta this year, and the largest numbers of tourists are expected from Denmark, Serbia and Italy, “Romania Libera” informs. The number of passengers which will visit the Danube Delta in 2011 is considered a record by tour operators. The head of the Europolis group, Victor Iancu, stated that, if, last year, the company had signed contracts with 154 cruise ships, only 137 had made it to the Delta, while the rest had cancelled their voyages either on account of rising Danube levels, which prevented them from going further than Novisad, or for technical reasons. The largest number of cruise ships so far – 177 – visited the Danube Delta in 2007, a number reduced to 136 in the following year, and reaching 150 in 2009.
