Joint ticket for bus, tram and underground fare in Bucharest

The unified public transport fare system in Bucharest is to be extended to surrounding areas including Chiajna, Pipera and Pantelimon, where private minibuses companies are operating now. According to the IMF letter, RATB’s and Metrorex’s public transport activity in Bucharest has to be managed by a joint metropolitan transport authority which will also manage private transport operators in surrounding townships. “The purpose is the unification of fares as the passenger now pays different amounts, which places him at a disadvantage. (…) Instead, paying a slightly higher, but well-weighed price, of RON 2 for instance, you can travel both by bus and by underground,” Gheorghe Udriste, the director general of Metrorex SA, stated, quoted by Realitatea.net, adding that earnings from ticket sales would be divided proportionally between public transport companies.
