Constantin Nicolescu, President of the Arges County Council, was released from Floreasca hospital yesterday, Antena 3 reports. While in hospital, Constantin Nicolescu underwent open heart surgery after he had had a stroke upon hearing the news he would be put under preventive arrest for 29 days. He is charged with taking bribes and influence peddling. He allegedly received RON 60,000 from businessman Cornel Penescu and embezzled European funds. His arrest sparked a political waggling, with Social-Democrats saying the case was but a frame-up. In their turn, Democrat-Liberals accuse the opposition of being obsessed with their anti-Basescu stand.
