Romania – poorest living conditions in EU

Living conditions in Romania are the worst in the EU, with over 40 per cent of Romanians living in homes whose toilets are not connected to the sewerage system or homes that lack bathrooms or shower rooms, Eurostat shows. Thus, 42.5 per cent of Romanians live in houses whose toilets are not connected to the sewerage system, while 41.2 per cent live in houses that lack bathrooms or shower rooms.


Over 50 per cent of Romanians live in overcrowded houses, while 22 per cent complain that water goes through the roofs and that the walls and floors are damp. Romania fares the best when it comes to lighting, with only 8.7 per cent of Romanians stating that they live in poorly lit homes.
