The president of the National Employment Agency (ANOFM), Silviu Bian said that the unemployment rate might drop to 5 pc this year – an estimation based on certain indicators like the available jobs announced for this period, Mediafax informs. “When I say this, I have certain indicators. I take into consideration the jobs we announced this winter. Seasonal activities in constructions that will begin during March-April will partly absorb the workforce laid off during winter time, so unemployment will slightly recede. We also have a positive forecast of economic growth, which means that part of the unemployment will be absorbed and jobs will be created,” Bian explained. The ANOFM official admitted that there are also people that do not declare themselves as jobless, but their number is very small and most unemployed are listed with the Agency, he added. In Romania, unemployment is calculated both by ANOFM – based on direct statements – and by the National Statistics Institute, as provided by the Bureau of International Labour Affairs, through surveys.
