Competition for PNL women’s organisation leadership

PNL Deputy Lucia Varga yesterday announced her intention to run for the position of president of PNL Women’s Organisation (ONFL), in a congress scheduled for March 19. According to Mediafax, Varga is supported by the majority of Liberal women organisations in Romania, such as those of Botosani, Hunedoara, Alba, Buzau, Constanta, Caras and Calarasi. Her decision also enjoys the support of deputies Mariana Campeanu and Gratiela Gavrilescu. The project meant to bring her victory is entitled ‘Liberal women can help Romania’ and aims at promoting valuable and competent women in politics. Varga said that PNL must have the courage to support women for positions of County Council president or mayor of large towns. The acting president of ONFL, Liberal MEP Norica Nicolai said she will not run for a new term, because the PNL statute only allows two mandates in this position, which is her case. Nicolai hailed both candidacies for ONFL president, those of Lucia Varga and Svetlana Preoteasa.
