Authorities: There are no grounds for a gas price hike

Home-consumer natural gas prices should not go up in the upcoming period, or “in the future”. There are no grounds for that to happen, according to a release issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA), a press release informs. The Economy Ministry constantly monitors the domestic and imported gas supply. During the first two months of this year, the proportion of gas imported from the Russian Federation via intermediaries rose by circa 40 per cent, from 21 per cent in Dec. 2010. March estimates by the National Energy Regulatory Authority put the imported gas rate at 40 per cent.
