Mugur Isarescu, governor of the National Bank of Romania, on Friday will be handed the Order of the Legion of Honour in a relevant ceremony at the Embassy of France in Bucharest. The Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest distinction awarded by the French state. For his activity as BNR head, Mugur Isarescu has also been decorated by the Romanian state. In 2007, Romania’s President Traian Basescu conferred on Mr. Isarescu the Industrial and Commercial Order in Rank of High Officer for the “most spectacular growth period after World War Two”. The entire BNR Board of Administrators was decorated on the occasion. In 2010, the BNR governor received Romania’s Star in the Rank of Sash “for his outstanding effort in the drafting and implementation of policies that ensured the financial stability of Romania”. The late Emil Palade and Patriarch Teoctist have also been among the recipients of that distinction.
