TVR wants to broadcast the bout, but according to unofficial information B1 TV has already bought the rights.
Sources from HotNews.ro and Realitatea.net informed yesterday that B1 TV has already bought the rights to broadcast Bute’s bout for the amount of USD 100,000. However the information has not been officially confirmed. On the other hand, ‘Prosport’ daily claims that Digisport is also seeking to buy the broadcasting rights.
A day ago TVR seemed to be the top favorite in securing the broadcasting rights although there were still disagreements over the price. “TVR has made an offer to broadcast the bout that pits Lucian Bute against Brian Magee. However, the price they asked for is a bit too much – USD 150,000. We are waiting for an answer until the last moment, we hope Romanians will be able to see Lucian’s bout live,” Cosmin Cernat, director of the public television’s sports department, stated for HotNews.ro. The bout will take place on March 19 in Montreal’s Bell Centre. “It’s true we’ve made an offer to broadcast the bout between Lucian Bute and Brian Magee. I’m not at liberty to tell you what our offer was, but I can point out that they (Gankor Promotions – editor’s note) asked for USD 150,000. I saw Lucian boxing live and I know how much he worked in order to become a champion. He has done a great deal and we’re talking about a world champion. Nevertheless, I believe the price is a bit too much.” “Looking at Lucian’s previous bouts, the bout against Magee could end quickly, however we are taking that risk. Let’s not forget we’re talking about an athlete that is proudly representing our country abroad.” “We haven’t received an official answer yet, but we’re not worried, we’re going to wait until the last moment. We hope everything will be fine and Romanians will be able to watch Lucian Bute’s bout live on TVR,” Cosmin Cernat, director of the public television’s sports department, stated for HotNews.ro. Romanian boxer Lucian Bute will defend his IBF middleweight world title for the seventh time against European champion Brian Magee on March 19 in Montreal’s Bell Centre. When the name of his future opponent was announced the organizers stated that the Irishman was “the best opponent available.”
Lucian’s previous bout (against Jesse Brinkley) was not broadcast in Romania.
