Police fire at suspects in Bucharest

On Wednesday evening police officers made use of gunfire in order to apprehend several suspects in Bucharest’s Militari neighborhood. Diana Sarca, chief commissioner within the Bucharest Police, stated for Mediafax that when approached by a Precinct 25 unit a vehicle with foreign license plates sped away and ran several red lights. Police officers pursued the car in Drumul Taberei and Militari neighborhoods. According to the chief commissioner, one of the passengers started shooting back at them. At that point the police officers shot eight warning shots and two towards the fleeing car’s tires. There were no victims although bullet fragments went through a betting house’s window. Ongoing investigations seek to identify the suspects and to find the car.

Meanwhile, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday police officers arrested two men in Afumati. The two are presumed to have ties with the thieves that were caught breaking into a van parked on the side of National Road 2. A police officer shot one of the thieves in the head. The injured thief is now hospitalized in a serious condition within Bucharest’s ‘Floreasca’ Hospital, Antena 3 informs.
