10,000 social workers on strike in Israel

Israel’s 10,000 social workers went on strike on Sunday, demanding higher pay, which they have hitherto been unable to obtain in negotiations with the Ministry of Finance. Some sources are worried that because probation officers will not submit reports, some criminals might go free, Global.co reports. The strike includes all welfare offices, and social workers at hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, healthcare organizations, the Ministry of Health, mental health institutions, the Ministry of Defense rehabilitation branch, juvenile and adult probation officers, and children’s investigators. The social workers are demanding a 30% pay hike, and overtime when they are on standby after regular work hours.
