PM Boc: Pensions frozen in 2011, to grow in 2012

Premier Emil Boc stated during a public television show that in 2012 Romania will afford to hike pensions by 100 per cent of the inflation rate plus 50 per cent of the gross average salary’s hike the year before. However, he added that pensions will remain frozen in 2011 with the exception of the 1.541 million pensioners that will have the possibility of receiving more money as a consequence of the earmarking of EUR 400 M for labor groups I and II until April 2011, the Premier pointed out, Antena3.ro informs.

During the same show he added that the number of public sector employees has dropped to 1.261 million as a consequence of cost standards being applied. “It’s still necessary for Romania to have in each domain as many employees as needed,” the Premier underlined.

At the end of last year the Head of Government announced that the number of public sector employees dropped to 1.27 million, below the target set with the IMF, and the restructuring process will continue this year too in domains in which procedures are yet to be finalized, such as the Administration and Finance Ministries.
