Three suspects in the Afumati theft, put on preventive arrest

Three of the four suspects in the case of the theft of Afumati-Ilfov were put on preventive arrest for 29 days, under a decision made Saturday by the Bucharest District 5 Tribunal, which upheld the prosecutors’ request, Realitatea TV reports. The incident occurred Wednesday, around 1.30 PM, when four thieves tried to steal a laptop computer from a van parked by the DN2 road. When police officers surprised them, the men jumped in a car and attempted to get away. Trying to stop the vehicle, the officers shot the tires, but one bullet got deflected and hit one of the suspects in the backhead. The man was taken to hospital and the other thieves barricaded themselves in a building of Afumati, then ran through the back door. The first fugitive was apprehended Thursday night at the Nadlac border checkpoint, while he was trying to leave the country on a bus. The second turned himself in Friday, while the third was found after six home searches in Movilita, Ialomita County. The case is being probed by the General Prosecutor’s Office.
