Brick market to stagnate in 2011

Ceramica Iasi brick producer estimates sees the respective market stagnating in 2011. If economy and the construction market pick up, the brick market will be the first to enjoy the effects of this recovery, reads a press release. At the present moment, market conditions are advantageous for residential projects, due to cheap labour and low prices for masonry works. Ceramica Iasi officials warn that the economic downturn has severely hit the market of building materials, in terms of both volume and value, so in 2010 the market dropped to half of what it was in 2008. Prices of building materials went up early in 2010, because of higher expenses with utilities and imported raw materials. In the current context, the Ceramica Iasi officials estimate that these price hikes will force the producers of masonry materials to increase their price as well, by 5 to 10 pc. There is already a very high pressure, after prices dropped by approximately 50 pc over the last two years.
