Romanians replace ceramic tiles in their homes every 20 years

Romanians replace the ceramic tiles in their homes every 20 years, mainly for the homes built before 1990, estimate sources with the Austrian group Lasselsberger (formerly Cesarom), the biggest producer of ceramic tiles in Romania, Mediafax reports. According to Lasselsberger, some 95,000 homes will be plated with ceramic tiles this year, down 13 pc from the level of 2010. “The value of the ceramic plates purchased by the Romanians who decide to arrange their homes for the first time this year amounts to approximately EUR 20 M,” said Eduard Macarescu, COO of Lasselsberger SA.

According to company forecasts, out of the 95,000 dwellings to be plated with ceramic tiles for the first time, 53,000 are new housing units that will be completed this year, and 42,000 are old dwellings that will be refurbished in 2011.

Company data also show that an approximate 290,000 housing units will be refurbished this year with ceramic plates worth about EUR 61 M in total.
