Lawyer arrested for allegedly demanding EUR 6,000

Judges with the Bucharest Court of Appeal yesterday issued a 29-day preventive arrest warrant for lawyer Vasile Stoian , a member of the Bucharest Bar Association. The ruling is challengeable by appeal. Stoica was arrested allegedly having demanded EUR 6,000 from a man in order to intercede in his favour with an employee at the Institute of Legal Medicine towards obtaining a legal medical document that might have improved his juridical situation. Lawyer Vasile Stoian purportedly received EUR 3,500 and RON 10,300 from three middlemen in order to obtain the said document. He was apprehended by anti-corruption prosecutors who filed a 29-day arrest application with the court.
