Holcim Romania allots EUR 35 M to environmental projects in 2011

Holcim Romania will invest EUR 35 this year in developing projects which contribute to environmental protection, energy-saving and the modernization of installations and technology. The amount is 75 pc higher than 2010 levels, a press release informs. The largest share of investments will be allotted to a project to recover the residual heat from the Alesd cement factory. At the same time, funds will be allotted to developing energy-saving products to boost the Alesd and Campulung factories’ co-processing capacities. The total value of investments made by the Swiss group in Romania, since 1997, amount to over EUR 700 M, which includes acquisitions made to expand the company’s activity. At the same time, Holcim Romania reported a EUR 200 M-turnover last year, slumping by 20 pc compared to 2009, owing to the effects of the economic crisis and to harsh conditions on the market. The company’s Executive Director, Markus Wirth, stated, in a press conference, according to Mediafax, that the company’s turnover could remain steady this year or slump by up to 15 pc, in a pessimistic scenario.
