Cristi Puiu’s “Aurora” comes to Romanian cinemas

The film “Aurora”, written and directed by Cristi Puiu, comes, today, to Romanian cinemas. The feature film “Aurora”, which had its world premiere in the “Un Certain Regard” section of last year’s Cannes Film Festival, presents Cristi Puiu not only as a director, but also as the lead actor. Puiu plays the part of Viorel, a divorced man, who, suffering from a depression, resorts to extreme measures. The cast also includes Clara Voda and Gelu Colceag. Cinematography is signed by Viorel Sergovici. “Aurora” is produced by Mandragora, with the support of the Romanian National Cinematography Centre (CNC). Eurimages, SC Serv Invest Ltd, OFC Section Cinéma, Centre National de la Cinématographie (France), in collaboration with ARTE France Cinéma, ZDF/ ARTE, the Romanian National Television, TSR/SSR and HBO Romania. Awarded, in the 2005 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the Un Certain Regard section trophy, for “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”, Cristi Puiu’s achievements as a director and/or screenwriter include titles like “Aurora” (2010), “Cigarettes and Coffee” (2004), “Stuff and Dough” (2001), “Before Breakfast” (1995), “25.12, Bucharest, North Railway Station” (1996), “July 13-19, 1998, Craiova, Elders’ Home” (1998).
