Emil Constantinescu attacks “smuggler President” Basescu

Former Head of State Emil Constantinescu stated on Sunday on Europa FM that intellectual elites are responsible for society’s general state of confusion considering that they endorsed “smuggler President” Traian Basescu, a former member of the nomenclature and of the Securitate. “President Basescu has a very important quality because we’re talking about a value in itself: honesty. President Basescu has always said what he wants to do. And he has warned us about who he is. For example he has told us from the get go that he was a smuggler. He told us very clearly: “I had money, at the end of the Ceausescu regime I was a very rich man.” Very rich. No party activist had that fortune, and that’s because he was engaged in smuggling. We know very well he was. With whom was he doing that? With the Securitate, because one could get arrested for having 5 Dollars, let alone for having 100,000. So he told us: ‘I was a smuggler,’” Emil Constantinescu stated. He accused the “intellectual elites” of “endorsing” Traian Basescu.
