Ion Besoiu turned 80

The actor Ion Besoiu, who turned 80 on Friday, stated, for Mediafax, that, on every birthday, he starts life afresh. The celebrated actor added that he continues to act, at 80. Thus, Ion Besoiu will soon appear on the stage of the Bulandra Theatre, in a play directed by Alexandru Darie, based on Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dosto­yevsky’s “Notes of a Stranger”. At the same time, Ion Besoiu is a member of the cast of the film “Loverboy”, directed by Catalin Mitulescu. The production will be launched in the course of this year. Ion Besoiu was born on March 11, 1931, in Sibiu. He graduated from the Theatre and Music Academy in Sibiu. He made his debut in 1950, but only met with success after taking on the lead role in the film “Toate panzele sus” (Full Sail), directed by Mircea Muresan, alongside great names like Ilarion Ciobanu and Jean Constantin. In 2001, Ion Besoiu was declared an honorary citizen of Sibiu, his birthplace. Ion Besoiu was awarded several distinctions, including the Romanian Theatrical Guild (UNI­TER) honorary award, in 2008.
