PDL Bucharest unanimously backs Boc

The leadership of PDL Bucharest unanimously decided yesterday to support Emil Boc in the race for PDL leader, branch head Elena Udrea said, quoted by Mediafax. Udrea, who on Sunday evening twitted that she had signed in support of Boc’s candidacy, explained that all the signatures gathered until now are “in a personal note” and that the race will begin after the candidates officially announce their intentions. Udrea also called on a wing of reformists in the PDL to join the Bucharest branch in supporting Boc for a second term as party president.

According to party sources quoted by Mediafax, by Monday afternoon, Boc has received the support of 25 branches, while Blaga is supported by 20. The sources added that there are branch leaders who signed both in support of Boc and Blaga. Moreover, Blaga also got the backing of several lawmakers and five PDL Bucharest organisations. PDL has a total of 48 organisations and a candidate needs to be supported by at least ten.
