MPs explain revolutionaries’ title annulment

The head of the December 1989 revolutionaries’ parliamentary committee, Raymond Luca, explained in a press conference yesterday the controversial decision to withdraw the revolutionary titles for two ex anti-terrorist workers during communist rule. The revolutionary certificates and martyr hero titles of Gheorghe Trosca and Trandafir Cotuna, both of them former workers of the communist Interior Ministry’s Special Anti-terrorist Unit (USLA) were cancelled recently by presidential decree, based on the proposal of the National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives (CNSAS). Luca underlined that the decision was made because CNSAS evidence points “without a doubt” that the two former USLA employees had been involved in political police activities. Trosca and Cotuna were declared martyr heroes after being killed, apparently by the military, in front of the Defence Ministry during the 1989 revolution.
