Two more Arges mayors heard by prosecutors

The mayors of Arges County localities Stolnici and Maracineni, both of them members of the opposition Social Democrat Party, were heard by anticorruption prosecutors yesterday as witnesses in the case of PSD Deputy Mircea Draghici, according to Mediafax. Sources among investigators told the news agency that the probe regards the manner in which several mayor’s offices across Arges County paid for consultancy projects on how to access European funds. According to local press reports, the consultancy firm hired by all these mayors belongs to PSD Deputy Draghici. The MP however rejected any involvement in the deal.
Draghich was already heard by anticorruption prosecutors on Wednesday, along with other mayors. The case is apparently also related to the corruption investigation against Arges County Council president Constantin Nicolescu, who is probed for acts of corruption.
