According to some sources quoted by Realitatea.net, Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi could be appointed interim President of PDL’s District 1 branch in Bucharest after Bogdan Cantaragiu was removed from that office. Officially Cantaragiu was removed for being involved in MP Dan Pasat’s file. Unofficially the move came as a result of him backing Blaga in the party’s internal elections. Baconschi seems to be the option preferred by Elena Udrea, President of PDL’s Bucharest branch. According to the aforementioned sources, Emil Boc co-opted the Foreign Affairs Minister in the team led by Valeriu Stoica too, a team tasked with drafting the motion with which the Premier will go in front of the party’s National Convention. Teodor Baconschi stated several weeks ago that he does not rule out running for Vice-President of PDL. Appointing him as interim leader of PDL’s District 1 branch could be interpreted as a kind of reward for the constant praise he brought to Elena Udrea during the elections for the party’s Bucharest branch leadership. Cantargiu was removed from the leadership of PDL’s District 1 branch a day after he announced that he backs Vasile Blaga’s candidature against Emil Boc, the latter being backed by Elena Udrea.
