The first experimental hybrid made in Romania will be presented, later this month, in Monte Carlo, in a competition for vehicles running on alternative energies, Money.ro reports. Dacia Hamster Hybrid-Electricway is an independent project of the University of Pitesti’s “Car Engineering University Research Centre”. The project is run within the EcoLOGIC program and set out to produce a car with carbon dioxide emissions of 99 g/ km. The car uses the technical platform of Dacia Sandero, with an EcoMatic Hybrid Propulsion System. The Hamster relies on a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric system, in which the heat engine is placed under the front bonnet, and the electric system is placed at the back. The name of the model is meant to illustrate the experimental purpose of the car, that of acting as a “guinea pig” for students, but is the more appropriate as the word “hamster” comes from German and refers to the capacity of stocking up energy reserves.
