Ponta: “Basescu and Orban, Gadhafi and Ben Ali of the East”

PSD President Victor Ponta said Monday that President Traian Basescu and Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban are “some kind of Gadhafi and Ben Ali of the East,” who think like “failed dictators of the 21st Century,” as they are at war with the press and have nationalist attitudes.” He accused Bucharest authorities’ lack of reaction after the messages sent on the occasion of March 15, the Day of Hungarians Everywhere, by some officials from Budapest, and accused the president, premier and Foreign Minister of cowardice. Also yesterday, the UNPR honourary president, Cristian Diaconescu, warned against the risk of using the March 15 messages to electoral purposes, both in Bucharest and Budapest. He accused the “cheap political opportunism” existing in both capitals, which turned the idea of national dignity into electoral messages to the peoples of the two countries.
