The tram that jumped off the tracks Monday, in the town of Iasi, hitting six cars in an accident that killed one and injured five, had a temporary malfunction of the braking system, caused by a power glitch, Mediafax quotes judiciary sources as saying. The braking system of the tram that caused the accident is working – a fact that was demonstrated by the technical check conducted at the depot, the spokesman of the local public transport company, Adrian Mihai said Tuesday morning, quoted by Mediafax. According to the source, it is still too early to blame the accident exclusively on the tram driver, as only the ongoing investigation will ascertain it. In his turn, Cornelia Prisacaru, first prosecutor with the Iasi Tribunal, said Tuesday that two variants are taken into account: either it was exclusively the error of the driver, or it was a temporary malfunction of the braking system.
