Petrom – top employer in Bucharest

Banks, supermarkets and the local Public Transport Company are the main employers in Bucharest, while the ten largest employers registered in the Capital city cumulate 100,000 jobs, according to B365.ro.
First in the top is OMV Petrom, with 22,663 employees, as certified by the Bucharest Territorial Labour Inspectorate (ITM). OMV also has the best paid Board among Austrian companies, according to a report of the Austrian Investors Association (IVA). The six Board members earned in 2009 a total EUR 10.2 M as salaries and bonuses. The chairman and CEO of OMV, Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer earned the highest income – EUR 2.59 M, according to the IVA report.

Second in the top comes Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), with 12,070 employees in Bucharest. The third place is held by the Bucharest Transport Company (RATB), with a staff of 11,964, according to ITM figures. The company, wholly owned by the state, is unable to reach profit. Despite a turnover of about RON 708 M in 2009, RATB only posted a profit of RON 15,596 – the equivalent of 104 tires.
