Labour Ministry: Approx. 1 M people perform undeclared labour in Romania

Approximately one million people perform undeclared labour in Romania, the state secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection, Nicolae Ivaschescu, stated, yesterday, adding that the ministry’s target was a sharp reduction of this number, Mediafax reports.

At the same time, another target of the Labour Ministry is boosting the number of jobs, according to Ivaschescu. “We hiked the fines for undeclared labour, and the effects of the new Labour Code will be analyzed monthly, keeping track of the number of contracts registered every month, so we can present the effects of the Code at the end of the year,” Ivaschescu further stated. The state secretary added that the institution’s target is reporting as many contracts for eight hour-working time as possible, rather than two hour-working time ones.
