The government emergency ordinance regulating the manner of recalculation of military pensions was tacitly approved by the Senate yesterday, according to HotNews. The ordinance will now go to the Chamber of Deputies for a final vote. Senators resumed discussions on the ordinance yesterday after debate on Monday failed to produce a decisive vote. The ordinance did not manage to garner the 69 votes needed either to be approved or rejected. This ordinance was passed by the government after the previous one on recalculation of military pensions was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court. The court’s ruling was greeted by military staff as a signal that the recalculation process, which they said lowered their pensions significantly, would stop. The government on the other hand said the ruling only suspended recalculation methodology, not the actual law ordering the recalculation of retirement benefits.
