Partnership to develop public libraries

The Culture Minister, Kelemen Hunor, signed, on Tuesday, a collaboration protocol, within the Biblionet National Program, by which the ministry, alongside the Romanian Association of Librarians and Public Libraries (ANBPR) and the IREX Foundation, will back public libraries. The Biblionet Program consists in the donation of IT equipment, providing Internet access, to public libraries in Romania, in training programs for librarians, as well as in actions meant to raise the public’s interest in reading and to boost the role of the library in the life of the community. The program contributes, thus, to creating and developing a modern system of public libraries in Romania. The Biblionet Program was allotted a total USD 26.9 M, and it is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented via the IREX Foundation.
