Vintu’s trial by the Bucharest Tribunal gets suspended

The High Court of Cassation and Justice suspended Tuesday the lawsuit at the Bucharest Tribunal, in which Sorin Ovidiu Vintu faces the charge of favouring sentenced criminal Nicolae Popa, until solving his request to have the trial transferred to a different court, Mediafax announces. Vintu’s lawyers filed the request with the High Court of Cassation and Justice on February 24, and the court will judge it on April 19. The request is based on “four coincidences” related to how four files involving Vintu reached the same court with the same judge: the criminal case that has Vintu accused of favouring Popa, the civil side of the FNI case, and two civil lawsuits initiated by Vintu against President Traian Basescu.Tuesday, the Bucharest Tribunal admitted a challenge against the magistrate in charge with these cases, Camelia Bogdan, which had been filed the previous day by businessman Octavian Turcanu, co-defendant with Vintu in the case about favouring Popa.
