FM discusses visas on Canada tour

During the Ottawa leg of his Canadian tour, Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi voiced confidence that progress will be reported soon in the process of lifting Canadian visa requirements for Romanian citizens. The topic was discussed by Baconschi with both his counterpart, Lawrence Cannon and the minister of immigration, Jason Kenney, according to a press release on Friday from the Foreign Ministry. Talks with Cannon also focused on bilateral ties, the joint political agenda and business opportunities, along with international issues, such as contribution to Afghanistan security and recent developments in Libya and the Middle East. Baconschi also had a meeting with Defence Minister Peter MacKey and the two officials discussed the Romanian-Canadian collaboration within NATO and other international bodies. Before leaving Ottawa, the minister also met with the Romanian community of Ontario and Quebec. In Toronto, Baconschi met with the Romanian community there and attended the public launch of the first Romanian-language lectureship body in Canada, opened earlier this year within York University.
