Friendly: USA-Argentina 1-1

Juan Agudelo’s second-half strike helped the United States clinch a 1-1 draw in their friendly against Argentina after a very disappointing first-half performance, according to fifa.com. Argentina took a deserved lead three minutes before half-time when Esteban Cambiasso beat Tim Howard, but Colombian-born forward Agudelo came in to equalise.

Sergio Batista’s Argentina, with Lionel Messi ambitiously leading the team on the field, managed to produce ten goal scoring opportunities before Cambiasso opened the scoring. Howard saved an Angel Di Maria shot from close range in the 34th minute but the custodian was unable to do anything eight minutes later.

Messi took the ball close to the byline and passed the ball to Di Maria, who shot on goal. Howard saved the opportunity but could only parry the Real Madrid winger’s effort, with Cambiasso more than happy to smash home the rebound.

Cambiasso was disappointed by the result and feels Argentina deserved more. The Inter Milan midfielder told Argentinian Channel 7: “I think we did our best in the first half, we attacked well and we should have scored one more goal. Then, a dead ball complicated everything. Anyway, we are just starting a formation process. One positive result more or less is not important in this process.”

Argentina are flying to Costa Rica to play the Ticos on Wednesday night, while the United States host Paraguay in Nashville, Tennessee.
