Yemen: Saleh ‘negotiating’ departure

Yemen’s veteran President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, is negotiating his departure from power during talks with the opposition, government officials said on Sunday, the BBC informs. But hopes earlier in the day of an imminent deal to end six weeks of crisis appeared to have been dashed. Presidential spokesman Ahmed al-Sufi said opposition demands for an immediate transfer of power were unacceptable. The talks involved vice-president, the US ambassador and tribal and military leaders who have defected to the opposition.
