ARTS & LEISURE

Inciting shorts, glamour and interactive features, a first at NexT 2011!

The 5th edition of the international film festival features something for everybody, regardless of age or taste: short features that won awards at major festivals worldwide, children’s films, student shorts, debut long features, absolute premiers of films

Aside from the 26 entries from 19 countries in the festival competition, NexT awaits viewers at its other three sections, a first at the festival, on topics as different as they are irresistible to the viewing public.
The event-projection Oscars Night is just one of the surprises this year’s NexT has in store for viewers. Friday evening, April 8, the NexT Festival will re-create at the Scala Cinema in Bucharest the glamorous atmosphere at the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Awards, showing Oscar-winning short features of the past five years.

The Uncensored programme is another novelty of the 2011 NexT Festival, featuring films for the uninhibited and the sexually open-minded. Uncensored will be held at Cinema Elvira Popescu, Thursday, April 7, from 20.30 hours. The access is allowed only to viewers 18 years old and over. The titles themselves of these daring productions are more than suggestive for what is going to be shown: Threesome (photo) (director Johannes Dullin, Germany/The Netherlands, 2009); Play with Me (director Piotr Sutkowski, Poland 2010); Carne (director Carlos Conceicao, Portugal, 2010) Putain Lapin aka Bitch Rabbit (director Guerin Van DeVorst, Belgium, 2010); Pulsiones (director Jose Manuel Carrasco, Spain 2009); First Fruits (director Pao Paixao, Switzerland, 2010); Plan Cul (director Olivier Nicklaus, France, 2010).

Last, but not least, fans of the new media and interactive technologies should get ready for New Trends, New Technologies, a truly live cinema performance consisting of a string of transmedia projects. Transmedia is an alternative to the classic cinema experience: the stories are told by means of a variety of platforms and formats, with the viewer becoming an active user invited to make a number of choices over how the plot and characters evolve. NexT 2011 Festival passes and tickets are up for sale through the TicketFan chain (at Flanco stores and the Anthony frost Brtish Library) and online at www.ticketfan.ro

This year too, NexT International Film Festival unfolds under the High Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Margareta of Romania and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The festival will take place at cinemas Scala and Elvira Popescu, and Mansarda Carturesti, April 6-10, 2011.
