New name on Basescu’s list of technocrat PMs

Dcnews.ro, quoted by realitatea.net, claims that Sorin Mandrutescu, the head of Oracle Romania, is allegedly the new name rumored in ruling coalition circles as Traian Basescu’s choice for the office of technocrat PM. Present at an event, Mandrutescu’s entourage congratulated him on Wednesday for the office he will obtain in case Emil Boc is reshuffled. The discussion was heard by several persons attending the party at the Hilton. Mandrutescu was pleased to receive the congratulations and did not deny he is within President Basescu’s sights. “What can I say… there’s no smoke without fire,” he admitted, with the discussion being confirmed from several sources.

In a statement to Mediafax, the director general of Oracle Romania, Sorin Mandrutescu, claimed that the mentioning of his name as a candidate for the prime-minister position was “a speculation”. “I am honoured by it, but it will remain merely a speculation. Just as the unconfirmed speculations regarding my appointment as a Communications Minister, last year,” Mandrutescu stated, yesterday.
