Scenes straight out of an action movie were re-enacted in Bucharest. All began when a Bulgarian citizen climbed in a taxi and asked the driver to take him to the hospital, after which he changed his mind and asked to be taken to a chemist’s instead. The taxi driver thought the client was acting suspiciously and stopped right away in a taxi station. At that point the passenger threatened him with a knife. “And when he told me to drive off, he pulled out a knife,” the taxi driver recounted, for Realitatea TV. Frightened, the driver jumped out of the car and called 112. The police set off right away on the tracks of the fugitive. “He was identified in Bucurestii Noi. The traffic police squads signalled him to pull over, but the man would not stop. Subsequently, warning shots were fired to stop the fugitive,” chief inspector Stefan Manolache, the Ilfov Traffic Police Brigade, stated. Nevertheless, the over ten warning shots did not frighten the man. The latter kept speeding and, on entering Mogosoaia, he lost control of the car and crashed into a fence. The man was injured in the accident and was rushed to the hospital.
