Presidency releases transcript of Nastase case discussion

After a WikiLeaks cable revealed that Basescu threatened to make ex PM Adrian Nastase’s corruption files public, annoyed by repeated claims that the investigations were politically motivated, the presidency released a transcript of the conversation referred to in the cable. The transcript, published by Mediafax, comes to confirm what the US diplomatic document said, that Mircea Geoana and other PSD leaders complained to Basescu about the political nature of Nastase’s cases and that the president was irked by the accusations.

Moreover, Basescu told the Social-Democrats present in the February 17, 2009 meeting, that Nastase’s files are based on complaints filed by PSD members. “I have the file here. First time I hear Adrian Nastase’s files are political, I will make them public and we’ll end this lie. You, PSD members are demanding probes into each other and you yell all the time that Traian Basescu and (Anti-corruption Office head) Daniel Morar are to blame,” the transcripts shows the president as saying.
