The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) has in store two special encounters for its spectators: Hector Lopez and Stefan Pop, celebrated tenors, will take up the male leads in the operas “Carmen” and, respectively, “La Traviata”.
Today, starting 6:30 pm, opera-lovers will be able to watch the ONB tenor Hector Lopez making his debut as ‘Don José’ in the opera “Carmen”, by Georges Bizet. Of Mexican descent, Hector Lopez, known to the Bucharest public due to his numerous parts on the country’s finest lyrical stage, has attended, throughout his career, master classes with the likes of Renata Scotto, Placido Domingo, Shilley Verret, Justino Diáz, Tito Capobianco and was acclaimed in major opera houses in Romania and elsewhere.
On Saturday, at 7 pm, the Bucharest public is invited to meet young tenor Stefan Pop, on a steady rise to international fame, who will perform for the first time on the ONB stage. He will take up the lead role ‘Alfredo’ in “La Traviata”, by Giuseppe Verdi. The winner of numerous prestigious competitions, including the Seoul International Singing Competition (2010) and the “Operalia” Competition in Milan (2010), Stefan Pop has been singing, since 2009, in the world’s greatest opera houses: Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Staatsoper in Vienna, the State Opera in Hamburg, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg, etc.
