PM Boc, Hungarian Deputy PM expected to attend Matei Corvin statue inauguration

The restored statue of Matei Corvin in Cluj-Napoca will be formally inaugurated on Saturday, with Romanian PM Emil Boc and Hungarian Deputy Premier Semjen Zsolt, along with ministers from the two countries, expected to attend the event. According to a Mediafax quoted release by the Ministry of Culture and the National Heritage, the restoration was made possible by the joint efforts of the Governments of Romania and Hungary, both of which contributed half of the restoration amount. The ceremony will also be addressed by Tokes Laszlo, vice-president of the European Parliament, and Kantor Lajos, president of the “Kolozsvar Tarsasag” Association.

The statue of Matei Corvin, the work of sculptor Fadrusz Janos, was originally inaugurated in 1902. In mid 2010, the statue underwent nearly EUR 800,000 worth of restoration works completed late last year.
