President Traian Basescu informed the Lower Chamber and the Senate yesterday that he approved the US request to have its air tankers allowed to use Romanian airfields in view of the air operations over Libya. In a letter filed to the Senate, the Head of State points out that putting the said airfields at America’s disposal represents support offered as part of the Romanian-American strategic partnership and that he has approved the Prime Minister’s proposals concerning the American demand. On March 28 the Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) approved the use of Romanian airfields by USAF tankers used for air-to-air refueling in the aerial operations that enforce UNSC Resolution 1973.
