Cioran’s manuscripts and personal documents auctioned in Paris

Several manuscripts and personal documents which belonged to the Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran will be auctioned today in Paris, by the Binoche & Giquello House, in a 20th century-letters and manuscripts auction, the website of the house informs. The 82 items put on auction at the Drouot Richelieu hotel include manuscript-notebooks – “Daily Tragedy”, “Teenager”, “Jansenism”, “Pamphlet and Pamphleteer”, “Considerations on the problem of knowledge in Kant”, “The Banal and the Transfigured”, “The Book of Delusions”, “Tears and Saints”, “The Transfiguration of Romania” -, numerous postcards and letters addressed to his parents and other relatives, a photograph of Cioran, his Baccalaureate diploma, his Bachelor’s diploma in Philosophy and Letters, a student’s card issued in Germany and many others. The manuscripts have been in the family of an old friend of Cioran. Tomorrow, April 8, also marks the centenary of Cioran’s birth.
