The 2011 edition of EUROPAfest, one of the most prestigious international musical event taking place in Bucharest, dedicated to blues, jazz, pop and classical music, was allotted a EUR 300,000-budget, Luigi Gageos, jmEvents director, one of the organizers, stated, yesterday, in a press conference. Gageos admitted that the budget for the event was fairly low, compared to other European events of its kind, but gave assurances that the organizers would do everything in their power to make the festival a success. The value of prizes in the EUROPAfest competitions will amount to EUR 17,000, out of which EUR 10,000 will represent the 1st prize in the jazz competition, and EUR 7,000 will be handed out in the classical music competition.
EUROPAfest kicks off on May 7, with a manifestation dedicated to Europe Day, organized in partnership with the European Commission’s Representation in Romania, including jazz, blues and pop concerts, offered by celebrated bands from Austria, Armenia, Brazil, the United States and Poland. Between May 7 and 12, Bucharest will also host the Caffe Festival, which will tempt us with a series of live concerts in unconventional venues. Bucharest International Jazz Competition takes place between May 8 and 12, and 18 bands from 21 countries will participate in this year’s edition. The Jeunesses International Music Competition, dedicated to classical music, takes place between May 8 and 12, as well. The EUROPAfest gala is scheduled for May 13.
