Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu has sent on Tuesday to the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek a National Anti-corruption Office (DNA) request to have Adrian Severin’s Parliamentary immunity lifted. Yesterday, EP Vice-President, Gianni Pittella, confirmed in the plenum session it had received the request, EurActiv informes. According to the EP procedure, the request will be sent to the Legal Affairs Committee which will discuss the case in a closed-doors meeting.
On Tuesday the DNA had sent the Justice Minister its request to have Adrian Severin’s Parliamentary immunity lifted because “of suspicions of bribe taking and influence peddling,” in order for it to be sent forward to the President of the European Parliament.
PSD leader Adrian Nastase stated yesterday that Adrian Severin has to verify whether the elements of a crime are met in what concerns the DNA’s request. Nastase added that Severin should hire a very good lawyer.
