Octav Cozmanca, Tudor Mohora and Ion Sasu, former Social Democratic Party (PSD) leaders, alongside Ioan Toma, the last head of the Communist Youth Union, are preparing to launch a new left-wing party, according to “Evenimentul Zilei”. According to the aforementioned source, the new party will be called the Social Justice Party (PDS), having Toma for leader, and will be launched in early May. The chief artisan of the new party, Cozmanca, would not reveal any details about the project.
“It is a project, it is not set in stone,” Cozmanca stated. “It will be a centre-left party. The idea it stands for is social justice, because that’s what it’s all about, there’s a dire need of social justice. And we are seeking a formula that will enshrine social justice,” Sasu stated, for evz.ro. He said that the project was “still” a work-in-progress. “We are working on something, but things will be finalized in two weeks’ time,” Sasu added. When asked who else was involved in this project, alongside the Cozmanca-Mohora-Toma hardcore, Sasu replied: “Several people are involved, including some who are now members of the heavyweight parties. Everybody thinks we need a new formula, we need to start from scratch”.
