Prosecutor General accused of leaking information to media

An email posted by the journalist Victor Ciutacu on his personal blog, quoted by Antena 3, indicates that the Prosecutor General Laura Codruta Kovesi sent details related to an investigation to several journalists. The email made public by Ciutacu features the indictment, accompanied by records of businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu’s conversations with journalists from Realitatea TV, and was allegedly sent by Kovesi to journalist Mircea Marian, from “Evenimentul Zilei”. In response to the allegations, the High Court of Cassation and Justice’s Prosecutor’s Office claims, in a press release remitted on Wednesday, that it sent the indictment in the case of the businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu, on October 14, 2010, only from the press bureau’s official address and after the case was deferred to justice.

In his turn, Marian wrote in an editorial yesterday that the October 14 mail he received included Vintu’s indictment only and underlined that all “serious” publications demanded the document. He explained that the transcripts of talks between Vintu and Realitatea TV journalists were not included in the indictment and reached the media only after the entire file was sent to court.
