Social-Democrat deputy Victor Surdu laid to rest

The Social-Democrat Party (PSD) deputy Victor Surdu was laid to rest, on Saturday, in the Ciorogarla Monastery cemetery, in keeping with his last wishes, Realitatea.net reports. The former Agriculture Minister was accompanied on his final journey by relatives, friends and party colleagues. Over 100 people attended the funeral.

On Friday, Surdu’s body was laid at the Palace of Parliament, where several PSD leaders and MPs from across the political spectrum came to pay him homage. Adrian Nastase, Liviu Dragnea, Marian Vanghelie, Victor Socaciu, Aura Vasile, Rodica Nassar, Robert Negoita were some of the main PSD figures who lit a candle in Surdu’s memory. President Traian Basescu, the prime-minister Emil Boc and Agriculture Minister also sent funeral wreaths in Surdu’s honour. The PSD deputy died, on Thursday, at home, after a prolonged suffering, having been diagnosed with a cancer of the pancreas. Surdu would have turned 64 this year. He had been married, for 12 years, to the celebrated singer Angela Similea. In the present Legislative, Surdu was a Neamt County deputy.
