The Romanian Railway Company Freight Division (CFR Marfa) notified the trade unions and the Labour Inspectors that 3,000 employees would be laid off, even if the number originally negotiated with the representatives of the staff was 2,400, Mediafax reports. Thus, as of June 1, these people will remain jobless, the trade union leader Iulian Mantescu stated, yesterday. On April 8, CFR Marfa started notifying trade unions and the Labour Inspectors regarding the dismissals. Mantescu stated that the management was under the obligation to wait ten days for the representatives of the workforce to send measures to avoid the dismissals and a maximum 30 days for a response from IT, after which the employees will be given their notice. The union leader added the trade union representatives were to be summoned this week by the management to discuss the protection measures for those who are to be sacked.
